The spa industry has grown over the past several decades and includes day spas and medical spas that are stand-alone facilities, part of a hotel or destination resort, or integrated into cruise ship operation.
The range of positions in Northern VA, Washington DC and Maryland includes:
- Estheticians (also spelled ‘Aestheticians’): estheticians are trained to perform a wide range of skin treatments and in Virginia, are required to pass a state licensing exam. Estheticians are most commonly employed in spas and salons and perform procedures including chemical peels and facials.
- Medical Estheticians: a medical esthetician specializes in skincare. They most often work with dermatologists, and are trained to assist clients in improving and maintaining their skin’s appearance. Medical estheticians are commonly employed by hospital and medical practices.
